MyMedicare

What is MyMedicare?

My medicare is a new voluntary govenrment initiative aimed at strengthing relationships between patients, their GP, allied health practitioners and other members of a care team.

Why should I sign up for MyMedicare?

Evidence shows that continuity of care through seeing the same GP and care team leads to better health outcomes and better care overall.

MyMedicare is aimed at formalising a care arrangement, through registration with a medical practice, to promote ongoing health relationship between patients and their doctors/team. This in turn aims to contribute to better health outcomes.

Truthfully, it is kind of a political strategy aimed at allaying fears of a pending privatised health care system through stealth.

Medicare rebates, previously frozen for about a decade, are currently only attached to 0.5 of CPI. Basically meaning that every year, each medicare dollar is worth half as much as it used to be, while the cost of keeping clinic doors open have, and continue to, increase dramatically. We are witnessing the privatisation of health care within a single generation. Its outrageous. People should be outraged at the federal governments approach to maintaining access to health care. In fact you should send the health minister an email regarding concern for their smokescreen approach to covering health funding decline in Australia and the freight train approach to an Americanised two teired system of private health care for the rich only: minister.health@health.vic.gov.au
