Shaping the future of Brunswick

Clinic visit from Dr Tim Read - State MP Brunswick

It was our pleasure to introduce Dr Tim Read to the staff and facilities at Inner North Medical Clinic on Tuesday! As Brunswick’s first State MP for the Green’s Party, as well as a fellow General Practitioner, we had lots to talk about and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Tim Read Greens MP Visits Inner North Medical Clinic

It was refreshing to hear Tim’s thoughts on some of the topics close to our hearts here in the medical practice, including the urgent need for reform around drug laws and pill testing, as well as the importance of equitable healthcare and outpatient waiting times at the major public hospitals.

Pill testing legislation has been introduced through a combined effort by the Victorian Greens and Reason Party, proposing a 2-year trial of mobile and fixed-location testing facilities, an approach that we at Inner North Medical Clinic wholeheartedly support. It’s well known that there are dodgy recreational drugs out there, which people may be protected from if they could be made aware of them. Over 20 years of data has shown that pill testing is safe and effective and we want to support this cause as vocally as possible in the interests of evidence based policy and public safety.

As well as a tour of the premises and introduction to staff, we also introduced Tim to our mole mapping machine and discussed the importance of regular mole screening to detect and treat early skin cancer. With melanoma the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the 15 - 40 year old age group, the importance of regular mole screening involving the most up-to-date screening technology is a must!

We greatly enjoyed the visit from Tim and his update on further plans and activities in our local area and beyond and we look forward to hearing more from the Greens and other parties on the above topics.
